Do not park beneath the light post.

Work on a Saturday

Saturday evening a young couple came by the lot. I asked if I could help them, and she said that she wanted to pick the color of her new car. I asked which car, and she said with a big grin, "The Saturn Sky."

Here is the Saturn Sky.
It costs a little over 30 thousand dollars new, but I figured they could very well be, uh, well-off and able to afford it, so I showed them the different colors then asked if they wanted to take a test drive.

Yes, they would.

In a two-seater like the Sky, the best option for a test drive is for me to go along, so that we have the assurance that the car is being cared for, etc. But they wanted to go together, so I asked if I could make a copy of her drivers license and insurance card (standard procedure for anyone taking a car without one of us along).

Now, if you were in her situation, what insurance card would you give me? Think about this. You are at a car dealership about to take an automobile for a test drive. They would like to confirm that you have insurance...

She pulled a card out of her wallet and handed it to me with her license. I made copies of both, gave them to her, and sent them on their way. I then looked at the copies to see where she had insurance, and realized she gave me her health insurance card (learning opportunity for me).

I should have asked for a copay. I could have made an extra 15 bucks.

Modern Enforcers of Good Use it Too

Blue Ranger: Dude, it's the bad guy!
Red Ranger: Let's get him!
Blue Ranger: Did you bring the BAKLAVA?
Red Ranger: Ah man! I thought you were supposed to bring the BAKLAVA!
Bad Guy (maniacally, of course): HA! HA! HA! I've got you now rangers! Without your BAKLAVA you are powerless against me!
Blue Ranger & Red Ranger (together): Dude...

Lunch At Jason's Deli Serves As Inspiration

Alma 43:18-

"And it came to pass that he met the Lamanites in the borders of Jershon, and his people were armed with swords, and with cimeters, and with BAKLAVA, and all manner of weapons of war."

Captain Moroni's secret weapon.

Does lying cause cold sores?

Or is it canker sores?

Does anybody remember me lying to them?

Morgan's Nap Time Routine

On days that I am at work when it is Morgan's nap time, Jessica goes through a little routine with him before he will go to sleep.

As a part of the routine he points to a picture of me that we have in our room, and says, "Da-ee!" Jessica will give the picture to him and he will kiss it. It's so sweet, I know!

But here's the thing. The picture is one from 1999, when I looked a lot like I did in this one with Aaron and Spencer outside Denny's in Phoenix, AZ. Granted, the photo is from my mission plaque, so I'm in a suit and tie, and smiling rather pleasantly, but the same skinny, single-chinned baby face is still recognizable to my little guy.

My conclusion: Morgan is a genius.

Pet Peeves

I've never really been one to be bothered by things. But I realized today that I do have one pet peeve.

This is very exciting for me.

Do you recognize the man second from the left? It's Deon Richmond. He played the role of Kenny on the Cosby Show way back in the 80's. Kenny was one of Rudy's friends, but Rudy insisted on calling him "Bud." Kenny really didn't care much for the nickname.

And you know what? I don't really like it either!

I realized this when speaking with a colleague at another dealership on the phone. As we went to end the call he said, "Thanks bud." And it really ticked me off. What makes him think he can call me "bud"? It sounds really condescending to me.

I probably just have a really young sounding voice, because he's not the only one to call me bud on the phone. Lots of the dudes from the other dealerships do the same thing.

They're probably just being friendly. To them it's a term of endearment (maybe). But to me, ah! it drives me crazy!

Display Name Change

I changed my display name. Now instead of my given name I will be signing everything as Holdinator.

It just seems more bloggy; or blog-esque, or whatever.

Days Off

My sweet little wife has been feeling sickly as of late. Because of this I was enabled to have two days in a row off from work.

Here I am, in my days off persona...

Firewalls abound here. And now more have been added to the mix.

No longer, while I am at work, will I be able to access Snide Remarks because it fits into the lifestyle/culture category of websites. Also, I no longer will be able to listen to radio stations from my computer, because all live streaming media has been blocked.

This means that I could have won a thousand dollars on the Doug Wright Show this morning, and I didn't hear about it.

Only In Provo

A member of one of the wards in my mission once told me that Mormons don't need mind-altering substances to act weird.

He was right.

Tonight I witnessed about 7-8 guys dressed all in white ninja-style (hoods and masks included) walk casually across Bulldog Blvd via University Ave toward two young ladies on the other side of the street. Instead of running like I expected them to, the girls appeared to do as they were instructed by the ninjas, sitting down and submitting themselves to a Ghost Buster-like examination (the ninjas pulled out instruments that looked like Egon's Supernatural Detector Thingy). I had to drive on because the light turned green.

What the heck was going on? Is there anyone out there who can enlighten me here?

Something Here Smells Funny

Back in my Cute Band Alert days, we played a song called "Somebody Here Smells Funny" (may not be the actual name Aaron gave to the song...)

The lyrics started like this:

You smell so pleasant,
You're so pleasant to smell.
You smell so pleasant,
You're so pleasant to smell.

You must shop at Bath and Body Works to get a smell like that,
And when you're walking down the street, you smell so good let's chat.
(end quote)

Well, today I got to work and realized that something here smelled funny. Then it struck me!

The picture is old, but the best one I could find on Jessica's blog with the culprit in it.

This afternoon before coming to work I spent some time in the backyard with the boys and the dog, and the main activity I engaged in was poop removal.

Apparently I missed some and it joined the bottom of my left shoe. Fortunately, working at a car dealership, I have access to a wash bay and a high pressure hose.

Lucky me.

Change is Good

I switched my template again. I didn't care much for the formatting on that last one. This one's nice.

Strangely, there is an unopened can of tuna on the family desk next to the computer this morning.

I cannot account for this.

The Punching Game

One of Joshua's favorite pastimes is playing the Nintendo Wii. Right now his favorite game is a boxing one. He's really quite good at it, and loves to play it with me.

Yesterday morning he really wanted to play with me, but I was running a little late for work. I promised him I'd play when I got home.

So after 9:00 last night we had a round of the punching game.It ended in a tie.
